The voices of Baressential

Recipe for a Baressential Business Blend

I always entertained the idea that alchemy is an attainable art form and what transformed anything into golden benefit for well being and health is the intention with which it is blended.

I have loved exploring, mixing, blending and combining natural materials since I was a very little girl. When I visited my father he allowed me to play with the spices in his cupboard seeing how attracted I was by their extraordinary vivid colours and their fascinating smells.

My fascination held and as I grew older I learnt to blend them for their taste, and then older again I realised their calmative, soothing and healing powers on the many systems of the body internally and externally.

As part of our blog theme for my part I want to share my knowledge, excitement and enthusiasm for the extraordinary capacity plants have to improve our health and well being.

Art of soap

When I discovered soap making I knew I’d found a craft that I could play with and marry all these interests and needs. We use the cold process method which in a nutshell, is made by mixing fatty acids, plant oils in our case and sodium hydroxide (oil & lye) this then triggers the saponification process. Sounds like magic, but really it’s part chemistry part artistry. To preserve as much of the nutrient and healing benefits as possible of our beautiful raw ingredients we gently combine them in small, minimally heated batches

I founded Baressential Art of Soap in 2011 out of a need to contribute an income to our family but also out of a need to be the director of my own life.
It had to be creative and nourishing to soul and body. My logic was – do something I love, make it the best it can be, make it beautiful, effective and useful and it will sell. So far so good!!

Creating Recipes

When creating recipes I approach it as an artist, as an herbalist and as a scientist and always as a student. With a reverence for the plant materials I am using and with a considered respect for the effect on the environment.

So here’s the first recipe I want to share

For Baressential Art of Soap

I blended

A generous dash of optimism – fool hardiness

Self belief – where there’s a will there’s a way

Supportive family and partner

A love and understanding of plant synergy

Ingredients grown without hurt to the environment or pain to people or animals

Essence of plants – essential oils

Cold pressed extra Virgin Oils and butters

Dried Herbs, Spices and Mineral Pigments

Nerves of steel

Kindness and Patience

And a wee bit of capital (more would have been better but nerves of steel can meet the difference)

Thank you for reading.

Kate
