Making Soap

Handmade

Soap

The ancient art of soap making has history going back as far as six thousand years. A formula for soap consisting of water, alkali, and cassia oil was written on a Babylonian clay tablet around 2200 BC. Throughout history, soap was medically used for treatment of skin diseases.

Our soap recipes have been formulated to give a thick, creamy lather, which will not dry out the skin. Each batch retains all of the glycerine, which is naturally produced when making handmade soap using the traditional cold process technique.

Cold Process soap is made by mixing plant oils and sodium hydroxide (oil & lye) which then triggers the saponification process. Sounds like magic, but really it’s part chemistry part artistry. To preserve as much of the nutrient and healing benefits as possible of our beautiful raw ingredients we gently combine them in small, minimally heated batches.
